20 inches of snow coupled with 40-plus mph winds

It was the third largest blizzard ever in the Fox Valley’s history.

The raging winds knocked out power for tens of thousands of homes, and the National Weather Service deemed the storm “life-threatening.”

But for the most part, area residents escaped any major damage from the almost 20 inches of snow coupled with 40-plus mph winds that whipped across Northern Illinois from Tuesday night into Wednesday afternoon.
